It should have the usual widgets (buttons, radio groups, etc), be able to drop in images. The prettier the results the better. Not looking to buy into an expensive package. I work on a Linux desktop but can run MS-Windows if needed. I'm going to take a peak at Nvu now. Any other quick suggestions? Thanks a bunch! Somewhat related I once again bumped into www.gliffy.com, which is on-line design and collaboration site with a MS-Visio like tool. Of interest is that it is built with OpenLaszlo, http://www.openlaszlo.org/ which I think is a technology leader in the RIA arena (think Flex, SilverLight). Gimp isn't bad, but very slow to load. iPhoto is an idea. Still haven't found anything as good as Fireworks. I was recently introduced to IrfanView, which is very no-frills but is free and does fine with resize, crop, rotation, etc: http://www.irfanview.net/ -- Mike Johnson From ken at secdat.com Mon Jan 28 09:35:41 2008 From: ken at secdat.com (Kenneth Downs) Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2008 09:35:41 -0500 Subject: [Bostonphptalk] OSX image editor suggestions In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <479DE83D.2050103@secdat.com> Cliff Hirsch wrote: > On 1/27/08 6:23 PM, "Joshua Johnston" wrote: > >> If you need to edit / adjust product images, etc, iPhoto should let >> you do most of what you need. >> >> If you need something to put together site layouts and graphics that >> is a different story. >> >> If you have x11 installed, you can use Gimp. >> > > Gimp isn't bad, but very slow to load. iPhoto is an idea. It's got it all, all you have to do is memorize a 7-step series of actions, each of which is in a completely different part of the menu and each of which is buried 6 or 7 clicks deep. A simple drop shadow is something like 5 or 6 steps. Or as I prefer to say about Gimp: Gimp! It's native format is SVG, but it is capable of bitmap (JPG, PNG) output. It also has a native version for Mac OS X. I use it under Ubuntu, and it is a very good program as far as OpenSource programs go. Much more user friendly than the GIMP. -Tim --------------------------- Timothy Boyden Network Administrator tboyden at supercoups.com SuperCoups(r) 350 Revolutionary Drive | E.
