Message-ID: Congratulations to Bernard Forster on winning last Saturday's synchron skat event! The results are available at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/results/rs11/results.html The rating graph has been updated, and is at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/rating/rating11.gif There is a map, showing the approximate positions of the homes of people registered with the British Skat Association, at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/map/index.html Nick -- Nick Wedd nick at maproom.co.uk From nick at maproom.co.uk Wed Nov 2 08:44:33 2005 From: nick at maproom.co.uk (Nick Wedd) Date: Wed, 2 Nov 2005 13:44:33 +0000 Subject: [Bska] October Rising Sun results Message-ID: I have today uploaded to the BSkA web site some pictures of the winners of our October event http://www.weddslist.com/skat/results/rs11/winners.html, and a spreadsheet giving all the hands and all the contract on them, generously created by Patrick Phair http://www.weddslist.com/skat/results/rs11/hands.xls This spreadsheet lists errors made in the scoring. There were sixteen of these, which is not unusual. Unfortunately, one of them was particularly large and serious, and was entirely due to the incompetence of the tournament organiser, myself. When table 3 handed in their scoresheet for session three, it clearly showed that Jonathan Norris had a raw score of 472, and 450 for nine games won, making 922. However I recorded his total score as 450 instead of 922. Because of my error, Jonathan was deprived of eight match points, and Bernard Forster, Patrick Cherlet, and John McLeod each received two more match points than they deserved. If the event had been score correctly, the first four places would have gone to Michael Wachowiak, Jonathan Norris, David Parlett, and Bernard Forster respectively. I apologise to all those who attended the event, and particularly to Michael and Jonathan, who were deprived of prizes which they deserved. Although we normally let all errors stand, on the basis that players at a table are jointly responsible for scoring correctly, and they shouldn't have signed the sheet if they weren't happy with the score on it, this situation is rather different. It's not reasonable to expect the players to check that the director is recording the scores correctly, though they can if they want to and some of them sometimes do. Although we can't alter the prize allocation retrospectively, the director may feel that he owes certain people a drink or two. Also, I think that the rating sheet *should* be revised to correct this one mistake. Just adjusting the match points doesn't quite mend things, since with correct scoring Jonathan would have had a harder draw in round 4, while others might have had a slightly easier draw, but it's the best we can reasonably do, I think. So unless there is any disagreement, I will recalculate the ratings to reflect the corrected match points: 8 more for Jonathan Norris and 2 fewer for Bernard Forster, Patrick Cherlet, and John McLeod. -- John McLeod For information on card games visit john at pagat.com http://www.pagat.com/ From nick at maproom.co.uk Sun Dec 4 05:27:30 2005 From: nick at maproom.co.uk (Nick Wedd) Date: Sun, 4 Dec 2005 10:27:30 +0000 Subject: [Bska] 2006 Rising Sun Skat dates confirmed Message-ID: The Rising Sun now has a new manager. He has been happy to confirm all the dates so far planned for our Rising Sun Synchron Skat events, namely Jan 14, March 4 and May 6, and to have us hold the events in the same way. The only change is, he expects the food to be better. Nick -- Nick Wedd nick at maproom.co.uk
