From nick at maproom.co.uk Sat Apr 22 08:56:00 2006 From: nick at maproom.co.uk (Nick Wedd) Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2006 13:56:00 +0100 Subject: [Bska] British Skat Association mailing lists Message-ID: Until now, the British Skat Association has had two mailing lists. One was operated by David Parlett. The other, based at http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/bska, was set up to replace the forum that was abused by spammers; people can add themselves to it, with the approval of the moderator (myself). The co-existence of the two lists was causing confusion, and we have decided to merge them. You are receiving this because you were on one or both of the lists, and are now one the merged list, the one at http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/bska. The rest of this email is (even more) boring, and requires no action. As a member of the list, you will receive all postings to it, and are able to post to it. You can use the interface at http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/bska to decide whether to receive postings as they are made, or in a "digest"; to remove yourself from the list; and to see who else is on the list. However you can see only those members of the list whose addresses are "open"; those who were originally only on David's list all have "hidden" addresses, those who were initially on this self-maintained list or on both lists all have "open" addresses. If you want to change your address from "hidden" to "open" or vice versa, you cannot do it yourself, but the moderator will do it for you if you ask him. People can join the list by using the form at http://seven.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/bska, which sends an email to the moderator, who must approve them before they are added to the list. There were 13 people on the self-maintained list only; 59 on David's list only; and four on both. Details are at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/rising15.html If you plan to attend, please email me before Tuesday, so that we can arrange for the catering. Also, to ensure a prompt start, please register on the day of the event (in person in the Rising Sun, or by 'phone) before 11:15. Anyone who has not registered by 11:15 risks being omitted from the first session. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday week. We have currently undertaken to take a team of at least ten, as indicated on the British Skat Association Web site, but now wish to firm up on likely numbers and make the necessary accommodation reservations. From our perspective numbers are not limited - the teams are not drawn up on purely national lines if numbers are imbalanced on the day. The atmosphere is very relaxed and informal, although play is a bit faster than our Synchron tournaments. As has happened on similar "tours" before, it is not obligatory for everyone to play, although I assume most will want to. The tournament is now due to be held on the Sunday, August 20th, rather than the Saturday as first advertised, which may make a return on Sunday to the UK a bit hectic, if not downright impossible. From discussions with those interested it is likely that most will want to extend the visit to include the odd day in one of the larger German cities, and individual travel arrangements will be made by the participants. If people can give some indication of likely itineraries we can help co-ordinate any travel arrangements if they are required. It is unlikely that we shall arrive en masse from one direction but our hosts would like some indication of what and when they can expect! The following have shown a positive interest, some we know are not able to confirm until closer to the date for various reasons, but we would ask all to confirm as soon as possible, ideally before the next Rising Sun tournament, even if it is a definite maybe!! ? Players of all standards are welcome. The format will be the same as in all our recent tournaments. Play will start at 11:30, there will be four sessions with a break for lunch after the first, and the event should finish by 20:00. Further details may be available at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/rising16.html or feel free to ask any questions by replying to this message. Entry costs ?5 and there will be prizes depending on the number of entrants. So that we have some idea of how many players to expect, I would be very grateful if you could let me know a few days in advance whether you are intending to play. You can contact me by e-mail at john at pagat.com or by phone at 020 7636 9697 or by post at 74A Ridgmount Gardens, London WC1E 7AX. People who have not registered in advance are still welcome to enter by coming to the Rising Sun on the day and we will do our best to include you. On the day, the pub will be open from 11:00. Please arrive by 11:15 if you intend to play in the first session, so that we can start on time. If you will be arriving later than 11:15 please call my mobile or send me a text - my number is 07736 518738 to let me know at what time you expect to arrive (this applies whether or not have registered in advance). Players who do not appear or send a message by 11:15 are not guaranteed a place in the first session. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 1st July. Message-ID: Patrick Phair has now made available spreadsheets of all the hands dealt and contracts played at the last two Rising Sun events (actually he gave one of them to me quite a while a go, I have only just found it). They can be accessed via http://www.weddslist.com/skat/results/index.html if you have Excel. I am very grateful to Patrick for doing this. I find it instructive to look through these hand records, and see where I lost points be being in a worse contract than my rivals. Nick -- Nick Wedd nick at maproom.co.uk
