From nick at maproom.co.uk Tue Jan 9 16:01:05 2007 From: nick at maproom.co.uk (Nick Wedd) Date: Tue, 9 Jan 2007 21:01:05 +0000 Subject: [Bska] Rising Sun Skat on SUNDAY January 21st Message-ID: The next meeting of the British Skat Association will be on SUNDAY January 21st in the Rising Sun, 38 Cloth Fair, London EC1A 7JQ (the nearest underground stations are Barbican, St Pauls and Farringdon). Players of all standards are welcome. It will be the same Synchron format as usual with 4 rounds, but the number of hands played will be reduced as necessary to ensure that play finishes by 18.30 for those needing to catch trains. So that we have some idea of how many players to expect, I would be very grateful if you could let me know a few days in advance whether you are intending to play. You can contact me by e-mail at noel at btopenworld.com or by phone at 020 7706 0582. People who have not registered in advance are still welcome to enter by coming to the Rising Sun on the day and we will do our best to include you. On the day the pub will be open from 11:00. Please arrive by 11:15 if you intend to play in the first session, so that we can start on time. If you will be arriving later than 11:15 please call my mobile or send me a text - my number is 07952 304718 - to let me know at what time you expect to arrive (this applies whether or not have registered in advance). Players who do not appear or send a message by 11:15 are not guaranteed a place in the first session. Regards, Uwe Kolsch From chris.beesley at fgould.com Fri Feb 23 07:43:21 2007 From: chris.beesley at fgould.com (Beesley, Chris) Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2007 12:43:21 -0000 Subject: [Bska] Skat August 2007 Message-ID: Several of you will be aware that we have been to Denmark and North Germany several times in the last two years, playing groups of players from Aarhus and Halberstadt in Denmark and Silberstedt in Schleswig. We were challenged to organise the next leg at the Rising Sun. Unfortunately the Silberstedt team cannot now come, but we already have a commitment from a strong Danish contingent for the weekend before the August bank holiday (Sat 18th/Sun 19th). We expect up to 12 guests, of which 4 or 5 from Aarhus have access to a company apartment in Victoria. Beate and I have volunteered to manage the tournament. We intend to hold our usual Synchron style tournament, and would be pleased to see as many players as possible. Because it will be during the holiday season, there is another new management team at the Rising Sun, and the pub is altering the furniture on the first floor, we shall need to ensure that we book well in advance, particularly to ensure that we have enough tables- we think we can also utilise part of the ground floor if necessary. There seems to be preference from our guests to play on Sunday, as there is more open for sightseeing and shopping on the Saturday, but we may get more co-operation from the pub if we play on the Saturday. Our own numbers may influence this. We would also like to offer accomodation to all our guests. Would everyone please drop me a note, to indicate their availability, both for Saturday and Sunday, if they are able to provide any accomodation (and the number) and any comments (such as which day they would prefer). If you are unsure of your availability, please mark "maybe" and add any comment on this, so that we can gauge numbers as soon as possible. If you would use the attached spreadsheet it will make life easier for me! The next tournament at the Rising Sun, as you will now have been reminded is ionly just over a week away. Initial responses before then would help, but any later changes will almost certainly be catered for. Please respond to my home email address above, as my business address will change over the next few months. Do not bombard Nick, who administers the bska mailing list. If you do respond to my business address by mistake, it is not aproblem for the month or so. The Bska protocols do not permit me to mail from my home address at present.! If Nick, or any others of you are aware of anyone who may like to play, who is not likely to receive this via the target address, would they please let me know, so that we can arrange other means of communication. Nick -- Nick Wedd nick at maproom.co.uk From john at pagat.com Mon Mar 12 09:54:49 2007 From: john at pagat.com (John McLeod) Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2007 13:54:49 +0000 Subject: [Bska] Sunday Skat tournament date changes Message-ID: The Rising Sun pub has recently informed us that unfortunately they will not be able to host our Skat events on Sundays in future. Because of this, we have rescheduled the tournaments we had planned for Sundays to take place on the Saturday of the same weekend instead. The dates of the next three tournaments at the Rising Sun will therefore be 14th April, 26th May, 30th June. We apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause you. Some players have raised again the idea of finding an alternative venue where we would be able to hold Sunday events (and possibly Saturday events as well). If anyone knows of any suitable places, please let us know. -- John McLeod For information on card games visit john at pagat.com http://www.pagat.com/ From john at pagat.com Wed Mar 21 19:41:07 2007 From: john at pagat.com (John McLeod) Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2007 23:41:07 +0000 Subject: [Bska] April Skat now back to Sunday 15th Message-ID: <2lHVUwcTKcAGFwm5@pagat.demon.co.uk> I am pleased to report that have found a possible new venue for our Skat tournaments, which can accommodate us on Sundays. We are going to try it out for the next tournament, in April. Therefore we are moving the April tournament back to Sunday 15th April (the originally planned date), and it will now be at The Plough in Museum Street (near the British Museum, not far from Tottenham Court Road tube station), with play starting at 11am. David Parlett will be sending further details in due course. Our apologies for the changes of date, and thanks to Chris, Beate and Noel for arranging for us to use The Plough and thus enabling us to continue with Sunday events. -- John McLeod For information on card games visit john at pagat.com http://www.pagat.com/
