You can search trademarks at uspto.gov. When you do, also look for 
variations in spelling and check for similar concepts (if you want to 
call your company 'Monday Games', then 'Tuesday Games' might have a 
problem with that).

For a company name it might be wise to have a national 'Common Law 
Search' done. This searches a database of non-trademarked trade names 
(from public records, yellow pages, etc.). Shouldn't cost more than $200 
or so.
