There's definitely a drop in conversion rate as the file size grows.
However, I think the 10meg "ceiling" is dated. The average I'm seeing as
of late is in the 12-14mb range.

Perhaps the ceiling today is 18-20Mb?

I'd be careful to put too much stock in individual cases like the ones
you quoted; individual titles could be benefiting from better
placement/marketing/brand/license/etc.

Concerning a definition of Casual Games:
The defining feature of a Casual Game is that you can feel casual
playing
it.
And that means that the investment that you have to put in to play it,
has
to be pretty low. Lower than for core or hardcore games.

Investment means
- time
- experience
- learning effort
- frustration potential
- (not money)

That means that a "casual" game on the Nintendo DS or the Playstation 2
would also be a Casual Game. Therefore there are different platforms for
casual games.
For example: "Try-before-you-buy PC" or "XBox live arcade" or the DS or
so.

It is "easy" to play a casual game.

I wrote a text about casual games and gender with couple of pages about
a
definition. But it is only in german. But I will translate it in the
coming
weeks.

With the apparent success of "Hidden Expedition Titanic" (lumbering in
at
around 30 megs), and the previous success of the Mystery Case Files
series
(both in the 20+ meg range)... is the 10meg limit a thing of the past?

Perhaps it is just due to the fact that the "scavenger hunt" game fans
are a
special breed and don't mind, but it appears as though they have no
qualms
about downloading the larger installers.

Thoughts?
