Its the developers stupid!
OK, so I hope I did not understand you properly, but in a recent
interview with the NYT (links follow) its sounds to me like you will
not allow third party development for the iPhone ... the reason you
give is that you are concerned that developers will screw up
Cingular's phone network (I am paraphrasing but this is the jist).
Let's be honest, this is not a QC issue, you want to control revenue
(video, ring tones, music, games, applications, etc...).
If this is the case, of course you are entitled ... but the way this
is bound to play out is that some other cool device with a different
OS sporting similar features will spring up - except it will be open
to third party development and someone* from outside Apple's brain
trust will create a killer app for it instead and so on ... kind of
like what happened in the early 80's.
Personally I think this is as absurd as restricting the music and
videos you sell on iTunes to works created by Apple employees.
Please think different!
