[casual_games] Salutations. Seeking Recommendation for an Android/iPhone Game Development Platform for a Multiplayer Card Game...

Tom,

Thanks for chiming in. As a new Unity shop but having 2 external studios
building in it for 2 years we have been curious if you're going to add WebOS
support in the short term? We have it with our Kanji engine but with 30
Unity titles in dev currently we want to make sure we can support this
platform moving forward.

All,
Just to chime in on this conversation from the Unity mothership, we
definitely recognize the need for improved 2D tools and as such it's on our
road map for sure. We had originally intended to have new 2D/UI features in
our 3.0 release (launched last September) but they weren't shaping up
properly and were deferred from that release. As it is today we've just
released Unity 3.4 and we have 3.5 in sight, and a loose* part of the 3.5
feature set is a rewritten UI framework, and from there we can continue
building out a larger and improved set of 2D features in general. For
reference, you'll find this information in a recent blog post by our CTO:

Unity Roadmap 2011
http://blogs.unity3d.com/2011/06/16/unity-roadmap-2011/

*I say loose in order to properly convey that none of the features we have
outlined for the 3.5 release are not guaranteed until we actually ship. With
that in mind, the features mentioned in that post were included because we
do have a certain degree of confidence in them making the release.
Dates/time frames aren't available just yet being as 3.4 just shipped.

@Bernard: I'm going to give your blog posts a read, thanks for sharing your
thoughts and I'll make sure any feedback makes it to the dev team's ears.

Sorry for the late reply in this thread, I thought it would be best to share
this information anyway. We do see this as important work and it's on the
way, I'll keep an eye out for any follow up questions.

Cheers,

Tom
