Subject: CHISIG Melbourne event on Tuesday 20th November 2007
Christmas is fast approaching so I have organised a couple of events for
you...
Date: Tuesday 20th November 2007
Time: 6pm networking for a 6.30pm start. Wrap up by 8pm.
Venue: Melbourne Uni, Barry Street Carlton, Lecture Theatre 2 - the intimate
one on the right. We'll meet in the foyer at 6pm for drinks, nibbles and
networking.
Topic: The power of usability techniques in healthcare.
About the speaker:
The presenter, Dr.Carola Hullin ( Lucay Cossio), has extensive clinical
experience in Australia and overseas. She has worked 20 years in healthcare
practice and the last decade has pursued an academic career.
She is delighted to have the opportunity to share her own experience as a
researcher, clinician, educator, implementation manager and usability
consultant in e-health strategies at the national and international level.
She has developed the initial report for Standards Australia for user
interface standards for healthcare data representation.
Carola was our Master of Ceremonies for World Usability Day(WUD).
Continuing in the WUD theme of healthcare, we are fortunate to be able to
have Carola present her experience in applied research conducted within a
clinical context. Carola is leaving for Chile shortly -- she works as a
global consultant for e-health strategies for the Ministry of Health Chile,
and several universities in Latino America -- so this will be the last
opportunity to catch Dr.Hullin before she leaves.
About the topic:
The utilisation of usability techniques in healthcare is poorly understood.
They are not incorporated as part of an evaluation process. The technical
requirements are met before the information systems reach clinical practice.
Consequently, the end users of healthcare systems rarely participate in the
design process of an information system.
Evidence in the health informatics literature demonstrates that
incorporating usability evaluation ( test) into the software development
process not only assists in the design of friendly user interfaces for
healthcare professionals but can also ensure that interfaces prevent errors
in practice. And that has to be something worth striving for!
See you there.
Regards,
Patrizia.
