Project title: Effective use of Social Software in Education

Research Associate position at the Open University in Milton Keynes, UK

Faculty of Mathematics, Computing & Technology,

Full-time position, £29,704 - £33,432 depending on qualifications and
experience [Ref: 5133]

12 month temporary contract available from 1st April 2009, Based in
Milton Keynes

The Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology at the Open
University (OU), UK is seeking a post-graduate researcher to work on
an e-learning research project.

This project builds on e-learning initiatives, which we have
undertaken in recent years at the OU. These initiatives relate to
evaluating students' and educators' experiences with social software
tools such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, photo-sharing sites (e.g.
Flickr), social networking sites (e.g. Facebook), and 3-D virtual
worlds (e.g. Second Life).The goal of this project is to develop and
analyse case studies, on the use of social software in learning and
teaching, and to develop recommendations for use of social software.
Ideally, you should have a Ph.D. in Education, Human-Computer
Interaction, Psychology, or a related discipline. However, candidates
who are suitably qualified and have experience of evaluating
technology-enabled learning environments will be considered. Previous
research experience or training at post-graduate level of applying
research methods is essential.
