Interesting way to get to know porteños
Looking to understand more about life in Buenos Aires? Talktime is an interesting and provocative way to meet and interact with porteños.
There are 90 talktimes weekly, scattered around the city. Most are in English (mainly for porteños), many are in Spanish (great for foreigners), some are in other languages.
Topics are suggested weekly so the conversation is always fresh -- topical or fluffy -- and lively. In addition to enhancing language skills, it's a wonderful way to meet porteños and better understand the local way of life.
My porteña friend Pilar and I co-moderate Saturday evenings in Puerto Madero -- the first hour is in English; in the second hour there’s a separate cluster in castellaño. There's a wonderful mix of porteños and extranjeros for all sessions.

This exhibit of photos, films, and short texts show the life of Ernesto Guevara, Argentina’s most famed revolutionary of the 20th century. The exhibit starts with his childhood in Alta Gracia and his youth in Buenos Aires, works up through his travels in Latin America and his arrival in Cuba and the following revolution, and ends with his trip to the Congo and his last days in the Bolivian jungle.
Curator of the exhibit and author of Che Guevara. La vida en juego, Julia Constela says the exhibit isn’t a monument to Che’s life, but rather a look at the footprints left by his story.
El objetivo de la exposición es mostrar la vida de Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, El Che, desde su nacimiento hasta su muerte: la infancia en Alta Gracia, la juventud en Buenos Aires, los viajes por América Latina, su llegada a Cuba, la Revolución, la expedición al Congo y sus últimos días en la selva boliviana. De esta manera, se exhibirán fotos (en su mayoría inéditas), filmaciones y textos breves que permitirán acceder a la vida de una de las personalidades más importantes del siglo XX.
Dice Julia Constela, curadora de la exposición y autora del libro “Che Guevara. La vida en juego” en el cual se apoya la muestra: “No se trata de colaborar en la construcción de un monumento sino de recorrer imágenes de la vida de un hombre que dejó sus huellas en la historia”.

Discovering the beauty of men through the eyes of a woman, this is the purpose of a set of artistic interviews created by Uruguayan artist Paula Delgado. After placing an ad in the newspaper requesting men over the age of 15 for a photo shoot, Delgado films them in the nude and interviews them—always in a hotel room.
The work is in progress as Delgado continues her work in other cities. In each city, a new video is born.
