I was at a meeting last week with several UK academics, and industry reps at
skillset. There is a strong move towards industry accreditation of
games-related degree courses in the UK (Jason, this is what I mailed you
about).

The overwhelming mood of the meeting was very much in favour of
accreditation, but that only a selected elite of courses would be accredited
(for those outside the UK, there is an explosion of games-related degree
courses in the UK at the moment). Four broad disciplines were examined -
programming, art, games design and management. For programming courses, a
strong clear set of criteria were outlined. For art courses, it was nearly
as clear, but there was an emphasis on broader uses of digital art as well,
for "games design" there was a strong feeling that there is quite a bit of
work to do to identify the educational requirements for games designer
roles, and for management it was felt that good management is largely
subject-independent. If people are interested I am more than happy to feed
back more details once they have been circulated.

Hi all,

Just got an email from SkillSet in the UK asking for feedback on their
draft "National Occupational Standards" for games.

Lots of interesting info in there... It is a public site, so feel free to
poke around even if you have no intention of submitting feedback ;)

	Jason
