We have a PhD in Digital Games program that started last year, run by
Gotland University College and examined through Blekinge Technical
College in the south of Sweden. Most PhDs related to games are in close
fields (e.g. computing science), but dedicated PhD programs will probably
become more common, since there are so many game education programs
being created these days.

Here's one for the crowd: Given the dearth of PhD-level programs available for game developers (or at least the low population of successful candidates of said programs) what is currently considered a terminal degree in the field of game development instruction at the college level? I have a master's degree in multimedia production which is serving me well right now as a program chair * but to ever become a dean or to offer a master's program my school requires a terminal degree in my field. Is a PhD in game development prevalent enough right now to be considered the terminal degree, or are master's degrees the end of the line right now? Just curious.
