<body>Hi, Susan.<BR><BR>I dislike the fact that people use the list for different purposes than the ones that were originally thought to cover. I remember sending you an email in the past regarding some inconvenient posting. I beleive even IGDA will have to search for a different approach. Maybe the solution is using some sort of opensource social networking plataform (Drupal, for example) where you could have specific spaces such as job posting, CFPs, etc.<BR><BR>I agree with Ian Schreiber that another issue is relevance, which is basically a function of personal assumption of such relevance as there is no ruling about the subject that can or cannot be posted, and neither any sort of limitations to do it. So, it depends on someone's concern regarding that relevance and the fact that his posting might annoy or not others. How can you control that?<BR><BR>Here at Image Campus, to avoid sending unrequested emails with job offerings to our students, we decided to open up a job posting area at our website. So companies send their searches to us and we publish them online. We've done some programming to control the information that is sent to companies and, so far, it has worked very well. It's opened to whomever access the website and want to copy/paste their resumé and click send. We only control the quality of such posting to avoid misuses of it.<BR><BR> <BR><link href="" type=text/css rel=stylesheet>

<DIV>So what do you all think about having someone post jobs on the listserv? I do not monitor who requests membership to our listserv, however, this seems like the 1st time someacademicone has ever posted a job on the list that was not academic. What are your thoughts, should we allow this type of posting? Should we even allow academic job postings? I would like to get your feelings and possibly come up with some stipulations or recommendations. The IGDA is about to launch a new website and with it many more communication tools. Should we add content like job openings to the site? If so, do you want to be in charge of it? Should they be limited to purely academic in nature? Although I am not too big on tight governance, I think we have grown to a reasonable size ~800 folks. I think we should have a discussion about what to do with jobs, equal to what we do with CFP? In addition, we should have an expanded web presence, not just a list. What are some of the things we can move off the list and onto the site? I post slides from talks and photos from conferences, but that is about all. We are volunteer based and the SIG and this list is what you make it. We have a new school year coming up, new opportunities for collaboration and I hope possibilities for growth in our organization. </DIV>
