During the recent WPX contest I didn't feel like working pileups so just did a bit of casual search and pounce. I found that this was easy from the keyboard using left right arrow keys to tune by 5kHz and if I heard something to fine tune with the arrow keys and modifers. When I got a station tuned it was simply a matter of hitting command+K to start entering the callsign. The pain was getting back to the VFO, one the station was in the log or if he moved frequency, as there doesn't seem to be a key-stroke for that - maybe there is can anybody enlighten me? I've been thinking of getting a powermate but the same issue would apply, I think. I'd have to go from keyboard entry to mouse to (to select the VFO control) to powermate. The problem is that all these hand movements between input devices take time and if you are trying to retune to follow a moving contact it can be too slow. It's funny but if you are in old fashioned logbook mode it's easy to tune the radio with one hand and write with the other. However when computer logging you need both hands on the keyboard to be able to keep up, well at least I do. 73 de Chris VP8BKF From 2E0XDF at Alphadene.co.uk Mon Mar 27 04:02:53 2006 From: 2E0XDF at Alphadene.co.uk (David Ferrington) Date: Mon Mar 27 03:06:25 2006 Subject: [MacLoggerContest] Re: MacLoggerContest Digest, Vol 9, Issue 1 In-Reply-To: <20060327021344.D0F3A578B9@seven.pairlist.net> Message-ID: Actually, that would be very useful, because them we could program the 'click' on the PowerMate to send that key. I'm sure this can be done with a sequence of keys, and a keystroke program would allow you to setup a function key to send the sequence. A quick question on the Powermate. I am under the impression that you can programme the powermate to simulate key presses when you turn it i.e. up and down arrows if your turn clockwise and counter clockwise to tune the radio. oops this is going to be two questions. 1. Will the shift modifier key still work to allow you to fine tune? 2. My original question. I think the powermate is also clickable, presumably by pushing down on it, so could this be programmed with shift+command+V so that you could click the powermate to focus the VFO control and then use it to tune? Have I got the right end of the stick, is that how it works? 73 Chris VP8BKF From dagro at dogparksoftware.com Tue Mar 28 19:00:30 2006 From: dagro at dogparksoftware.com (Don Agro) Date: Tue Mar 28 19:00:34 2006 Subject: [MacLoggerContest] select vfo contol In-Reply-To: References: <44D8D026-E1E9-43C6-A87F-965CAB1E7A18@horizon.co.fk> <4C55BE6A-6649-4FB8-8891-146B0F79CE3C@dogparksoftware.com> Message-ID: <49FFE4C7-FCF6-4240-B4BC-87C6233E983D@dogparksoftware.com> Hi Chris, On 28-Mar-06, at 6:12 PM, Chris Harris wrote: >>> It there an easy way to select the VFO control, I mean to make it >>> active so the it can be tuned with the arrow keys, by a simple >>> key stroke? >> >> "Focus VFO" under the Log Menu or V >> > Wow perfect Don, thanks very much. Basically, but there is Rotate Right, Rotate Left, click, long click, click and Rotate Right, click and Rotate Left. 73 Don Agro VE3VRW D o g P a r k S o f t w a r e L t d . email: dagro@dogparksoftware.com www: http://www.dogparksoftware.com iChat AV:dogpark@mac.com From 2E0XDF at Alphadene.co.uk Wed Mar 29 02:56:55 2006 From: 2E0XDF at Alphadene.co.uk (David Ferrington) Date: Wed Mar 29 02:56:59 2006 Subject: [MacLoggerContest] Re: PowerMate In-Reply-To: <20060328231307.8EE1757ADC@seven.pairlist.net> Message-ID: YES - just tried that. Can set click to send a cmd+shft+v and it does change focus to VFO. You can hold shift key and rotate PowerMate and it works as if you were holding shift key and using arrows, same goes for option and rotate. You can specify the 'key' repeat rate too. There is a 'long click' on it too, so could send a keystroke to move focus back to the call sign field - but I can't find a command to do that (tried tab, return enter etc) And a click and rotate, so in theory you can hold down the PowerMate and rotate and have it send shift+up- arrow etc, however, I found that difficult to do and it didn't seem to work anyway. Don, could you add a keyboard shortcut to move focus back to call sign field? I often work along a band via the PowerMate, when I'm feeling lazy :-) On 29/3/06 12:13 am, "macloggercontest-request@dogparksoftware.com" sent: > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 > Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2006 20:12:58 -0300 > From: Chris Harris > Subject: Re: [MacLoggerContest] select vfo contol > To: Don Agro > Cc: macloggercontest@dogparksoftware.com > Message-ID: > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed > > Hi Don, > >>> It there an easy way to select the VFO control, I mean to make it >>> active so the it can be tuned with the arrow keys, by a simple key >>> stroke? >> >> "Focus VFO" under the Log Menu or V >> > Wow perfect Don, thanks very much. > > A quick question on the Powermate.
