You mean the government entities actually took a step in the right
direction?? That alone is some feat! The confidence meter just deflected to
the positive a little.

Mad props, as they say, to Gary Timm for throwing a flag on some lurking
technical issues in the CAP 1.2 specification. I'm told the OASIS Technical
Committee voted today not to press ahead regardless, but rather to fix the
problem and accept a relatively small delay in finalizing the spec.
By moving quickly to put SBE's concerns on record, and then collaborating
with the CAP community to find a simple and broadly-acceptable solution that
would involve the least possible delay, Gary may well have averted serious
difficulties for FEMA, IPAWS and thus, ultimately, for the broadcaster
industry. The OASIS product is certainly much the better for his efforts.
