I'll be about to purge off the email addresses of those people who were not re-elected or otherwise have left TM. It would make my life a bit easier if those of you who are no longer TMMs would either unsubscribe or inform me (and then I'll unsub you). In either case, though, I'll be going through the official TMM list and removing everyone who's not a TMM. For those of you who are TMMs, please note what address you receive this email at. If it's not the one you want to be getting mail from this list at, please tell me and I'll change the address. If you are a TMM but no longer want to be on the list, tell me that too, so I can remove you. Thanks! -- Rich Carreiro rlcarr at rlcarr.com From rlcarr at rlcarr.com Mon Apr 28 09:20:18 2008 From: rlcarr at rlcarr.com (Rich Carreiro) Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2008 09:20:18 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Town Meeting] List posting guidelines Message-ID: Hello. With a new TM about to start, I wanted to quickly review the list posting guidelines: (1) This list is a moderated announce/distribution list. It is NOT for discussion/debate. I find the best way to think of it is as a way to electronically distribute the sorts of things that are put on everyone's chairs, as well as a way to get late-breaking TM-related news to TM participants. (2) Unlike many other lists, attachments ARE allowed (since a main point of the list is document distribution). (3) If the document is hosted on a website, it is preferred that you post a URL to the document rather then sending the document itself to the list. (4) There are no requirements re: document format, but it is strongly suggested that documents sent to the list be sent in PDF format (though spreadsheets should additionally sent in their native format), so that your fellow members without MSWord, etc. will be able to read them. But that's only a suggestion -- you're free to send in whatever format you like. -- Rich Carreiro rlcarr at rlcarr.com From rlcarr at rlcarr.com Mon Apr 28 09:12:11 2008 From: rlcarr at rlcarr.com (Rich Carreiro) Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2008 09:12:11 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Town Meeting] Eligibility to be on the list Message-ID: Since I got a couple of questions... List membership is open to all those who each year are authorized to sit "in the enclosure", so TMMs, members of committees and commissions, department heads, BoS, FinComm, SchoolComm, ARB, etc. A number of you indeed fall into those non-TMM categories and are and will remain on the list (until you tell me otherwise). Feel free to pass the word to any of you board/committee/ commission/department head/etc. colleagues. Remember -- this is an announce/distribution list, not a discussion list, so it will not be very high volume. -- Rich Carreiro rlcarr at rlcarr.com From sprague.bob at gmail.com Tue Apr 29 08:26:33 2008 From: sprague.bob at gmail.com (Bob Sprague) Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2008 08:26:33 -0400 Subject: [Town Meeting] Substitute motions Message-ID: <30a75230804290526y9bc2655pe411da4821414371@mail.gmail.com> YourArlington will post substitute motions from Town Meeting members at its Town Meeting link. Making changes to the warrant text overlooks the fact that the warrant article serves only as an agenda item. In my 33 years of reviewing votes I have never seen this done and it will be totally confusing to the town meeting many of whom will not have the warrant in front of them. I will advise the Moderator to rule it out of order until it is done properly and in accordance with long standing practice. ----- Original Message ----- From: pbworden at comcast.net To: rlcarr at rlcarr.com Cc: townmeeting at arlingtonlist.org Sent: Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:38 PM Subject: [Town Meeting] Article 19 Substitute Motion Dear Rich: Would you please post the attached substitute motion for Article 19. The rule does NOT mean that posts to the list cannot express an opinion on an article, recommended vote, etc. As I said before, the list is for the types of things that are left on TMMs' chairs -- and those things certainly do express opinions, often strongly. The intent of the "no discussion" rule is to prevent discussion/debate *on this list*. The idea is that there should not be back-and-forth (i.e. posts directly responding to other posts) on this list. Again, that does *not* mean that things posted to the list cannot contain opinion/advocacy. The reason for the rule is that when my list administrator predecessor started this list, some people expressed concern to him that if discussion/debate were allowed on the list, TMMs without the time/money/interest to be online would be left out of the loop and not be on an equal footing with those TMMs who did have the time/money/interest to be online. Therefore, he decided to make the list a distribution list, and when I took over administration of the list, I continued his policy in that regard. -- Rich Carreiro rlcarr at rlcarr.com From pbworden at comcast.net Wed Apr 30 09:37:55 2008 From: pbworden at comcast.net (pbworden at comcast.net) Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 13:37:55 +0000 Subject: [Town Meeting] (no subject) Message-ID: <043020081337.15763.48187633000CC58900003D932216554886020A0B9D01990D9F@comcast.net> Dear Rich and Bob: Please post the attached substitute motion for Town Meeting members.
