From voisey-i at voxnovus.com Sun Nov 2 12:50:08 2008 From: voisey-i at voxnovus.com (Vox Novus List) Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2008 12:50:08 -0500 Subject: [Voxnovus] 60x60 announcements!!! - way too much for one email Message-ID: <20081102174402.55DA120A35@qs281.pair.com> Hi! Let me start by saying I appreciate all of your interest and enthusiasm for the 60x60 project. I do everything in my power to keep this list informed and not abused. Now.. Wow.. There is a lot to talk about. and more announcements are on the way this month. Please be patient. FIRST - Vox Novus in collaboration with CatScratch Theatre has created 60x60 Dance for 2008 and will be presented by arts>World Financial Center at the Winter Garden This is a MUST SEE event! 60x60 Dance will have 60 dances performed by more than 60 choreographers and dancers to the music of the 60x60 2008 International Mix. I have included the press release below. If you are in the New York City area this is the type of event to cancel your other plans and show up at the Winter Garden.. really.. I'm not joking. this is it, probably the biggest most exciting show the project has produced to date. and we have had some whoppers! There will be two shows on November 14th, 2008 at the Winter Garden. The first is in the afternoon at 12:30 and has already been booked to 90% capacity. Yes, that is right. 90% close to 1000 people are planning to attend the event. (don't' worry. it is a public space. if you want to see the afternoon performance I am sure you will find a space. The Winter Garden can easily hold up to 2000 people) The second performance is at 7:00 pm that same evening on Friday November 14th, 2008. I hope to see you there! If you have ever been a part of 60x60, seen 60x60, know an artist from 60x60, or just enjoy modern dance or contemporary music. forget that. if you are looking to be inspired and have a lot of fun. this is the show for you!!! Excited yet? No?! The event is FREE. Still not excited? Really?? O.K. then. how about this. 60x60 Dance was performed to the Evolution Mix at Galapagos in Brooklyn about two months ago. It was a hit! Galapagos was great. The dancers were tremendous. The music was fabulous. The event was beyond compare to all our other shows. Don't believe me? Well see for yourself! The following page has a couple of pictures from the Friday night performance: http://www.voxnovus.com/60x60/60x60_Dance.htm Still not convinced? Really? Ok. Here are some videos from Saturday's performance. We will be blogging a video every day until all 120 are done from the Galapagos Evolution Mix performance: http://60x60.blogspot.com/ (thanks to David Morneau) Now tell me. do you really want to miss an event like this at the Winter Garden? I didn't think so. See you there! Rob P.S. definitely come and say, "hello" to me at the gig. I will be in Canada this week, but other great things are happening in North America. I usually don't plug; however, I fyou can get out to one or both of these two following events you will not be sorry. A Vox Novus composer George Brunner has some of his work being performed at the International Electroacoustic Music Festival. And if you know Contemporary flute... You know Robert Dick. He is having a retrospect of his 50 years making it happen at Carnegie hall. I am completely upset to have to miss these two events. But you all know... The show must go on. I am happy to have been just inspired by these two great contemporaries. Onwards and Upwards! ========================== http://www.EM-NY.org International Electroacoustic Music Festival Welcome to Electronic Music New York (EM-NY) Since 1986, EM-NY has been producing concerts with composers and artists from every corner of the world. As you might know I have attended a lot of new music events, but it was a particular surpise to me and my collaborator Jeramy Zimmerman that we put on the largest most successful event in our careers to date. (And the both of us have been in some pretty big things:) It is a little hard to put into words. And in the end I think 60x60 just needs to be experienced. Have you ever seen a 60x60? All the shows are fun and different; however, this show was a little bit special. I guess the best way to describe its success is with stats. We had two shows; an afternoon concert and an evening concert at the Winter Garden World Financial Center. The first show had approximately 1600-1800 people in attendance of which 1100 were students and teachers from grade school to high school. The evening show had approximately 600-900 in the audience of which 15 were composers, one of whom traveled from Texas to see the show. About 60 choreographers were involved creating dances to the 60 electronic audio works from the 60 composers from around the world and there were more than 90 dancers on the stage performing. The event was listed in publications like The New York Times, NBC, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The Village Voice, Newsday, Thirteen WNET, Time Out, Trendtrekking; we were interviewed on WKCR and WNYC and for NYPress. We all need to thank Jeramy Zimmerman for her dedication and commitment to modern dance and the 60x60 project; her enthusiasm and hard work have helped make 60x60 Dance a great success. I want to thank all the composers of 60x60 for all the years. Each submission whether in or out of the mixes has been a contributing factor to this success. Thank you to all the choreographers, dancers, artisits, and musicians who have collaborated and contribute to the project. Your hard work, sweat, and determination have been instrumental to the project's quality and momentum. A quick thanks to the arts> World Financial Center for providing a great space for 60x60. And of course thanks to the Vox Novus team! There are too many to thank in one email. I like to think of us as all ONE community rather than a bunch of individuals. A little nod to those directly involved with this performance: David Morneau, Anne Cammon and Isabelle Deconinck. More to come. Onwards and upwards!
