For anyone interested in investigating MMOG's, take a look at the "Massively
Multiplayer Game Development" books:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1584503904/qid=1128807221/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-5095266-3468607?v=glance&s=books
There are two books in the series (the latest one was released earlier this
year). Each book contains a number of articles written by members of the
MMOG dev community (similar to the "Game Programming Gems" series).
Many of the articles don't go into great amounts of detail - occasionally
there's a bit of code, but you can't exactly copy it and have a working
game. However, the articles do provide information about the many design,
programming, and production issues related to making these types of games.
After working on a few of these games myself, I would recommend these to
anyone in the MMOG industry.
