To continue the productivity discussion; tight integration with the IDE and
project management systems is something I've missed for many, many years.
Regardless of if I'm working as the sole programmer on a project, or with
several others, I know that quality would increase and development time drop
significantly if I had that in place.
My solutions to this problem have been poorly integrated - loose Excel
sheets etc - and from time to time I search the web for better ways.
Right now, I have two alternatives: Be a pioneer and try dan.g's ToDoList
with bindings to SVN and MS Project, and try to hook up a test system and
bug tracker to it all
or
jump on the MSDN Universal offer I just got, and pay USD 4.500 instead of
14.300 to get VS Team System (which seems to be what I need). But that price
is for one seat, one year! (I'm not sure, but I think the included VS
license expires after one year). That's an outrageous price.
I've been accepting MS more and more the last few years, because of .NET, C#
and XAML, but... I recognize the familiar shape of that old clenched fist in
my pocket.
What do others use? Have you found the perfect combination of production and
management tools that all interoperate? Or even a decent one?
I want interop to the level where a //TODO: comment automatically finds its
way into the higher level task lists, and even sorts itself under the
correct category in Project's Gantt view.
