I'm 100% interested in having some roundtable industry discussions in Second Life. These things go on constantly in SL, like this one:

  http://www.vedrashko.com/advertising/2006/06/panel-on-marketing-to-virtual-avatars.html

As Jónas said, this would be a cheap and quick way to exchange ideas and promote ourselves, our companies, and the casual game industry as a whole. It would be a snap to get some recognition on influential blogs and in the SL community.

Anyone else interested? A basic account in Second Life is free and the learning curve is minimal.

This might be a little off topic but I think it would be interesting to

explore the possibility of a virtual casual games conference supported by a

virtual world environment like "Second Life" (http://secondlife.com/).

We might even be looking at a series of mini conferences which could take

place quarterly each year, for example. Participants could set up showrooms

and meeting rooms could easily be set up. A schedule for lectures and

workshops could be planned ahead. The format is certainly casual, access is

easy and the whole event planning, scheduling and setup would require

minimum work. It would still create a livid social experience, promotional

opportunities and an excellent forum for education and interaction.

This idea is based on the concept of making it easier for smaller companies

to easily participate in conferences. This would cut down travel costs and

companies from both sides of the Atlantic would have equal opportunity to

  represent themselves and participate.

Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there. I would be glad to help set this

up if people would be interested in seeing this happen.

I should add that the GDC management has given the verbal approval for

expanding the Casual Games Summit at the GDC from a one-day to a two-day

event, with the first day geared toward relatively newbies and the second

  day geared toward veterans.

I would say for the shear size, value and networking opportunities my money

would be on GDC. For around $1000 you get four days of great talks, an

informative exhibit hall and some very nice parties afterwards ;)
