It wouldnt be as press-worthy.
I am trying to remember the last time I read anything about IRC in Wired.
Maybe by the time the magazine launched it was already Tired?

I really like this idea, but I wish there was a format with less barriers to
entry than Second Life. Specifically, one that worked on Gnu/Linux and
didn't require installing anything. Perhaps something in Flash? If people
only had to pop open their browser at the right time, we'd probably see more
attendees.
