***** Full Screen vs Windowed Games *****
Most of our customers at www.tournamentgames.com are older adults and
windowed
games are hard for them to see and play. These players do not have the 20/20
vision
that most of the young guys programming them have. If a player has to
squint, lean
forward to play, or get a head ache from the game they probably will quit
playing.
If the game is more fun than chatting, or answering email, they probably do
not mind NOT multitasking.
A few years ago we duplicated a couple of our games in a Windowed version
(Flash)
and players could choose which version they played. The Full Screen Versions
got
3x the play as the Windowed versions. We dropped the Windowed versions a
short
time later.
After hosting online games for 8 years with 251 million games played I do
not
have any plans on providing Windowed games.

This is a very interesting question. As a publisher and developer, we
have clients asking for both and we produce both; however, 90% of our
development goes toward a full screen game.
I'm of the mindset that it should be the other way around, then I start
to look at the audience segments. Most prefer a full screen and do not
prefer to multi-task on their computer.
If my figures seem off, can someone please send me figures otherwise?
Thanks,

This is something that has been bugging me for a while. Just about
every Casual Game I download and publisher I talk to says the default
mode should be Fullscreen, not Windowed.
This doesn't make sense to me. I would think that a Casual Game would
want to be played on the desktop, so other applications can be viewed
and responded to.
Is it really true that our audience wants games to run in Fullscreen, or
is this just a myth that keeps getting passed down from publisher to
publisher to developer to developer?
Does anyone have real data to support this?
Ron
