Here is something to bake your noodle.

Because most of the ad revenue goes into the pockets of one player in the
value chain, there is a fundamental dis-alignment of interest between
portals and developers.

The portal has better margins on ad revenue from people downloading 10
mediocre games, than from selling one great game that will keep the player
from coming back to their site for X hours.

One can also argue that there are millions of people who are playing Flash
Games on Miniclip, Addicting Games and other web sites, and they are not
above 40.

Casual gamers are not just for the above 40 years old. It's just that the
only successful business model for developers so far has been the downloads
(as advertising is not being shared properly yet), and that's why we spend
so much time talking about it. And those who open the wallet buying
downloads are predominantly female above 40.

Tells you one thing: the new generations don't want to pay you a dime.

A lot more people will be making web games for a living by next year.

Cheers,

Juan

Casual games will continue to get traction from the above 40 age group,
while core games on 3D will continue to emerge for the Gen-X/Y group.

I think it is safe to say that each of these two segments find the
other's games "boring".

Two important questions would define the direction of this discussion:
which segment is growing more rapidly, and is there a migration from one
to the other.

Is there a possibility that traditional casual game ideas will be
implemented in a "core" way. Diner Dash in 3D! That might spur the
migration between segments. Any guesses in which direction?
