There might be. Adventure games are doing quite well on Manifesto Games
(www.manifestogames.com) it seems, so there is a market for them.
Whether they can succeed in the casual space is a tough question to
answer. Adventure games require a longer up-front time investment than
most casual games, but I believe Aveyond (www.aveyond.com) did well in
the casual market, so that need not be a problem. Also, a casual
audience might not respond well when they get stuck on a puzzle; you
need to keep them moving forward.
I think the best way to go when you're making an adventure game for the
casual player, is to make it fairly short - three or four hour of
gameplay, like 5 Days A Stranger
(http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/) - and not too hard. Of course,
the only way to find out is to try.
