Lennard, I come from a VC++ background as well and have shared that pain :)
I took a look at Unity for a 2D game about 3 years ago. It didn't handle
2D well, in fact things like pixel perfect sprites were not possible
which was a deal breaker for us. I had urged the Unity guys to add
better 2D support, don't know if its improved with newer releases. Unity
seems to be a great 3D game engine with unparalleled features and
support. It might not be the best choice for simple 2D games.
