[casual_games] Copycats -- What Can Be Done?

The first place I heard the 'chime' in that video was on Bejeweled 2
actually.
I would expect that all these games have sourced the sound from the same
place. If you work with sound professionally you're spotting re-use of the
same samples constantly, and not just in games. They're in movies, tv and
music all the time. And I'm constantly running into familiar material when
browsing through libraries looking for things. It is surprising how often
licenced source material is used raw with no modification whatsoever. For
example all the nifty teleporter and door sounds in the original Quake are
straight out of Sound Ideas, like so many things are.
A classic case is the 'Wilhelm' scream which was used in Star Wars but
originally is from a 1951 film

Given the budget casual games are developed on, even at Popcap, nearly any
effect is likely to be sourced from a library. So I'd give the Dynasty guys
the benefit of the doubt.
